Casa de Campo, Dominican Republic

March 18, 2019

Casa de Campo Golf Resort in the Dominican Republic, is a 7,ooo acre luxury vacation destination; it is a short flight from Miami or anywhere in the East coast. As a result, Casa de Campo is the ideal location in the Caribbean for my family. We elected Casa as the destination to celebrate our niece’s 16th birthday and had a wonderful time during our stay.

Flights

Most major airlines have direct flights to Santo Domingo or La Romana airports. Santo Domingo is the Capital, the drive to Casa de Campo takes around an hour 20 minutes. While La Romana is closer, taking about 40 minutes. Because we didn’t plan on driving while in Casa, we scheduled a car service for our transportation needs.

Accommodation Package

We booked the Casa All Inclusive package, which included the following:

  • Accommodations with balcony overlooking the water
  • Full breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and room service delivery
  • Extensive cocktails, wine and non-alcoholic beverages, some exclusions apply
  • Unlimited horseback riding, tennis, non-motorized water sports
  • One round of 25 shots skeet/trap shooting
  • Use of golf cart

*Travel dates and some restaurants exclusions apply.

Casa de Campo Resort

Upon arriving at the resort, we were met by a friendly host with refreshing bottles of water and cold towels. Once checked in, we drove a golf cart to our building. Daya, our niece, invited a girlfriend along to help celebrate her birthday. We had so much fun trying to beat the girls on the golf carts around the property.

We had connecting rooms with the girls, which made it easy for us to keep track of them at all times. The rooms are well appointed and comfortable, with large bathrooms and plenty of closet space. Each room had balconies overlooking the golf course, making it the perfect place to drink my coffee in the morning.

Activities

There are activities for everyone in the family, from lounging and reading a book by the pool, water sports, art classes, to horseback riding. Casa de Campo has several top ranked golf courses, as well as an equestrian center. My suggestion is to take a look at the events calendar ahead of your arrival, and pick activities that you will want to do. Be sure to call the concierge to confirm availability ahead of time. Note that some activities require reservations.

Restaurants

With so many restaurants on the property, food choices are plentiful. There are  7 restaurants on the property.

  • La Cana
  • Lago Restaurant
  • La Piszzetta
  • Pubbelly Susi
  • La Casita
  • SBG
  • Chilango Taqueria
  • Minitas Beach Club & Restaurant

Breakfast –

Start the day off with a delicious breakfast at Lago Restaurant. The staff is friendly and attentive, the buffet has a selection of fresh fruits, meats, pastries, juices, and much more. Made to order options also available.

Lunch –

Return to Lago Restaurant or try La Cana, another option for a casual, but delicious lunch. If you are spending the day at Minitas Beach, be sure to stop by Minitas Beach Restaurant for a light lunch. The view of the water is breathtaking and the breeze will keep you cool as you enjoy your meal.

Dinner –

For dinner we tried Pubbelly Sushi, where the food was delicious. The mix of Japanese and Caribbean cuisine can be enjoyed in a casual, family style environment. La Piazzetta, my favorite restaurant on the property, overlooks Altos de Chavon, the restaurant was decorated by Oscar de la Renta when it first opened. The menus has traditional Italian classics as well as seasonal dishes. Plan on arriving early and walking around Altos de Chavon, an authentic replica of a Mediterranean village. SBG is another great option, a bit dressier, the dress code is resort chic.

What to Pack

Be sure to check the dress code at some of the restaurants, as some have a dress guidelines.  Following is a list of the suggested essentials to pack.

  • Sunscreen! I cannot stress this enough.
  • Hat – It can get very hot.
  • Long sleeve shirts to wear when going out for extended periods of time, for activities such as horseback riding, skeet shooting or water sports.
  • Comfortable walking shoes. We did a lot of walking, be prepared.
  • Beach or pool sandals.
  • Sunglasses.

Our experience at Casa de Campo was fun, relaxing and enjoyable. With so much to do, we were never bored. Daya had a beautiful birthday celebration, and we felt so fortunate to be able to share it with her. We will definitely return soon!
